A little over 5000 Fijian households have received the seed packages distributed by the Ministry of Agriculture since the exercise began early this month.

Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Environment, Hon. Dr Mahendra Reddy had stated during the launch the seed packages would be delivered to the doors or gates of the homes of Fijians.

The Ministry is working in close collaboration with the Fiji Police Force Community Policing on this program and ensuring that strict COVID-19 protocols are followed by both the distributing teams and Fijians receiving the seed packages. This includes wearing masks, regularly sanitizing hands, and practicing social distancing.

The Minister had said, the initiative was for those who wanted to establish and re-establish their home gardens.

“Please stay home, we will visit you with your home gardening seeds,” Dr Reddy had said.

The Team have so far distributed 3,700 seed packages in the Central containment areas of Lami, Suva, Nausori, and non-containment area of Korovou. 1,400 has been handed out in the Western Division to areas of Ra, Tavua, Ba, Lautoka and Nadi.

Dr Reddy had also re-assured Fijians that the program would continue and if some had yet to receive theirs, ‘…not to worry, as we will not leave anyone behind.’

Seed distribution is continuing.
