April 28, 2024

After a lapse of so many years, youths in the greater Raiwai area converged at the Raiwai Volleyball Courts today to participate in an exciting day of volleyball competition.

Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Vatimi Rayalu opened the competition this morning and addressed the need for youths to make smart decisions in life.

“Drugs is an issue right now across the world and has become unstoppable here in Fiji. I want you all to become someone in life and make a name for yourselves in the field of education and in the workforce. I was also brought up here in Raiwai so yes, I know what struggle is like and how we can overcome it,” stressed Hon. Rayalu.

“It takes dedication, honesty, integrity and determination to become successful. If I can become a minister, so can you.”

Hon Rayalu challenged the youths to strive for a good future and to engage in healthy activities that will continue to raise their livelihoods and the Raiwai community as a whole.

“Stay away from drugs and try hard to live an honest life. Use your talents wisely and ensure that you become a better citizen of this nation. Let me remind you, drugs is not the answer to your problems. Stay away from friends that will influence you and lead you astray. ”

The Raiwai Volleyball Association held the competition to try and revive their good old volleyball glory days as well as identify talented players for future national competitions.

At the end of the competition Hon. Rayalu also handed out prizes to the Overall Winner in the Women’s and Men’s Category which was won by both Eagles Men Team 2 and Eagles Women Team 1.

A total of 18 teams participated in the one day competition with 10 Men’s teams and 8 Women's teams.
