The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways staff joined in a vibrant Diwali celebration at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Raiwaqa yesterday, marking the Festival of Lights with messages of unity, gratitude, and hope.
In addressing the staff, the Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Hon. Inosi Kuridrani, expressed his appreciation for being part of the celebrations, especially in his new role, and for the opportunity to share in the festivities.
Reflecting on the deeper meaning of Diwali, Hon. Kuridrani said that the festival is “more than just a celebration, it is a powerful symbol of hope, unity, and the triumph of good over evil.”
“It reminds us that even in the darkest of times, the light of truth, compassion, and goodness will always prevail. Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and unity over division, values that hold deep meaning for all of us, regardless of faith, ethnicity, or background,” he said.
Hon. Kuridrani highlighted that the message of Diwali resonates strongly with the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve the agriculture sector across the country.
“In our work within agriculture and waterways, we strive every day to bring light through innovation, sustainability, and service to the lives of our farmers, our communities, and our environment,” he said.
Hon. Kuridrani also commended the dedication of staff throughout Fiji, acknowledging their essential role in advancing the Ministry’s mission.
“Agriculture is the backbone of our nation. Just as Diwali celebrates abundance and prosperity, our Ministry is committed to ensuring food security, climate resilience, and sustainable water management for all Fijians,” he said.
Hon. Kuridrani encouraged staff to reflect on the unity and compassion that festivals such as Diwali inspire, noting that cultural celebrations strengthen professional bonds and reaffirm the values that guide public service.
“Let this celebration be a reminder that our cultural heritage and professional responsibilities are not separate, they are intertwined. Festivals like Diwali strengthen our bonds, inspire collaboration, and remind us of the values that guide our service: compassion, integrity, and unity,” he said.
Hon. Kuridrani extended his warmest wishes to all Ministry staff and their families
“May this festival bring brightness to your homes, warmth to your hearts, and joy to your families. May the lights of Diwali illuminate our hearts and guide us toward a future of peace, prosperity, and purpose.”
The celebration ended with dance performances, awards for the best displays and attire, and sweets and food that reflect the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity and unity across all divisions.
