The children of Treasure House Christian Children’s Home in Nadi were pleasantly surprised when Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Environment, the Hon. Dr Mahendra Reddy dropped by for a surprise visit on Fiji Day (10.10.20).

The Minister briefly explained to the children what Fiji Day meant.

“Today is 50th anniversary of Fiji’s Independence. 1874 Fiji was handed over to Britain to look after. Then in 1970 Fiji was given back to our leaders to govern and rule. In 1970 we say Fiji gained Independence. Since 1970 our leaders have looked after Fiji.

“So on this day we remember our leaders and today our Head of State is His Excellency, Jioji Konrote, he is the President. Our Head of Government or the Prime Minister for Fiji is Honorable Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama.

Dr Reddy passed the best wishes of the Prime Minister, Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama to the children.

“We came over here today to say hello and to tell you that we as a Government will look after all of you. We came here to thank the sisters, the caretakers who are doing an excellent job in looking after you,” he said.

Treasure House Supervisor, Mr Selestino Soko thanked the Hon. Minister for visiting and added that they were blessed to have him come over.

The visit was the first of three events the Hon. Minister attended as part of the Fiji Day celebrations held throughout the country.
