PS Agriculture Kolitagane Meets with Central Dairy Farmers

January 25, 2019

Dairy farmers of Tailevu North earlier this week met with the Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, Mr. David Kolitagane during his consultative visit to livestock farmers in the Central Division.

Mr. Kolitagane during the visit informed farmers about the available services and resources within the Ministry and also requested farmers to liaise more effectively with the Ministry and its stakeholders to progress and develop the dairy industry.

“I know there is a lot of sacrifice being made by farmers, and even though we’re offering Government support and expertise, there is still room for improvement and we want to deliver our service more effectively to benefit you.

“During my visits to farmers and processors, we stress the need to work smartly and to coordinate more efficiently with each other, especially from the Ministry’s perspective, in order to lift the sector to another level to realize its potential,” he said.

With the sector’s increased economic performance, PS Kolitagane also highlighted Government’s growth assessment over nine years indicating an average growth rate of 2.5-3%, of which a significant contribution can be attributed to the agriculture sector.

He visited farmers of Tonia, Waidawara, and Sawakasa in Tailevu and also held informal discussions with farmers of the Waidalice Dairy Cluster, before meeting with the Fiji Cooperative Dairy Company Limited (FCDCL).
