December 2, 2021

Farmers in the rural and remote areas are set to benefit from assistance donated by the Taiwan Trade Mission in Fiji.

This follows the handing over of F$125,000 worth of assistance to the Ministry of Agriculture on Tuesday (30.11.21) by the Taiwan Trade Mission to support the development of farmers in rural and remote areas.

The Ministry's Head of Finance, Mr. Ajay Singh received the cheque from the Representative of the Taiwan Trade Office in Fiji, Mr. Joseph Chow at the Ministry's headquarters in Raiwaqa.

Mr Singh said the assistance would be used to purchase tractors and farm implements which would assist farmers and cluster groups to increase their farm outputs and contribute to the overall growth of the agriculture sector.

“This donation is very timely and will provide much relief to the farmers during the time of the pandemic. One of our strategic priorities is to build a sustainable and resilient agriculture sector and this assistance will help us achieve our vision through modernization and mechanization of the agriculture sector,” said Mr Singh.

He acknowledged the people of Taiwan for the continuous support in terms of providing the Ministry of Agriculture with the much-needed equipment and technical support to further boost the Ministry's current efforts in modernizing the sector.

“Taiwan's cooperation is very much part of our supply chain systems, the machinery handed over to us contributes significantly towards increasing our production levels, and we appreciate this collaboration and hope that we will continue to work together in the future,” said Mr Singh.
