The Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Hon. Vatimi Rayalu, handed over three Solis 75RX 4WD tractors with 3-disc plough valued at $46,620.000 each to the Saunaka Methodist Trust in Nadi, Nacokovakarua Trust in Sabeto and the Waiyavi Methodist Circuit Cooperative Ltd in Lautoka today (27.06.23).

The assistance has been given out under the Farm Mechanization program targeting organised farmer groups or cooperatives to increase agricultural production.

Hon. Rayalu stressed the importance of unity in the group and advised the farmers on the need for better communication among members to ensure transparency and accountability.

“Government has provided this assistance on the understanding that the group will play their part in maximizing the use of the machine to raise agricultural production and contribute positively to the overall agriculture sector’s contribution to the greater economic growth of the nation,” he said.

He said there is a lot of arable land available and it needs to be utilised to its full potential.

The recipients paid a third of the cost ($15,540.00) of the tractor and 3-disc plough and the Ministry covered the remaining two-thirds.
