The Ministry of Agriculture
and Waterways signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Food Processors
(Fiji) PTE Ltd (FPFL) at the ministry headquarters in Raiwaqa yesterday.
This MOU will see the two organisations enhancing their partnership to create better opportunities for farmers across Fiji.
Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Waterways, Dr. Andrew Tukana says that the ministry will work closely with the company and will provide technical support towards their projects through facilitation of training and access to appropriate financial and social support systems.
“We are grateful to form this understanding and partnership with Food Processors, especially in trying to lift the livelihoods of our farmers,” added Dr. Tukana.
“This collaborative approach will surely assist us in our efforts to grow the agricultural sector in Fiji and of course promoting our local produce to the world through increased export of frozen and value-added products.”
For over 35 years, FPFL has been a cornerstone of Fiji's food sector, dedicated to bringing the flavours of Fiji to households worldwide. As a government-owned commercial entity, FPFL has made substantial contributions to Fiji's economy by processing, packaging, and distributing agriculture and marine-based commodities.
They specialise in high-value agro-products for niche markets and ensure quality and freshness without additives or chemicals.
FPFL Chief Executive Officer, Raneel Mudaliar says that under renowned brands like "Pacific Crown" and "Red Ribbon", FPFL offers a diverse range of premium products, including frozen dalo, various sauces, palusami, tomato puree, tropical fruits, root crops, and seafood like coral trout and Spanish mackerel.
FPFL's commitment to quality and authenticity is evident in its product lineup, reflecting the richness and diversity of Fijian cuisine.
“The company sources root crops and vegetables from regions across Fiji, ensuring a diverse and sustainable supply chain with a commitment to achieving a consistent supply volume, thus bolstering food security in Fiji,” said Mr. Mudaliar.
“We have been consistently engaging with farmers in the Central Divisions for bele and rourou supply, catering to market demand from countries such as New Zealand, Australia, United States of America and Canada.”
FPFL exports its range of products to nations worldwide, offering frozen, fresh, and value-added products to meet diverse market needs.
Mr. Mudaliar adds that the MOU reflects FPFL's strategic vision, which emphasizes sustainability and brand equity. By aligning with Fiji's national development plan and sustainable development goals, FPFL aims to address challenges such as natural disasters, climate change, and infrastructure issues, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways.
