The Navuso Agriculture Technical Institute (NATI) received a huge boost today, when they received an irrigation kit provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways through its Irrigation Kit program.
In handing over the kit, Director for Waterways Mr Marau Vuli, acknowledged the tremendous work carried out at the institute and hopes that the assistance will impact the farming programme that is being run within their curriculum.
“NATI is the only institute in Fiji that is preparing the country’s future farmers and the assistance today will assist them to look at farming from a different perspective’’ Mr Vuli said.
“New technologies are being introduced to enhance farming and with the changing climatic conditions that we are facing, the students will be able to re-introduce this concept when they concluded their 3 year term at Navuso," he added.
In receiving the assistance, Principal of NATI, Uraia Waibuta thanked the Ministry for the timely assistance.
“The assistance is welcomed at the school as we are just about to start our plastic in-house farming of assorted vegetables so now the kit will be used to moisten our vegetable plastic house during the dry season,” explained Mr Waibuta.
“The irrigation kit will also be used to transfer water from the river for our vegetable farms and will truly empower our students to grasp all the knowledge on technologies that can be applied to their own farms when they complete their studies here at NATI,” said Mr. Waibuta.
“The irrigation kit will also enhance students learning on climate smart agriculture which is the way forward now.’’ Mr Waibuta stated.
The Irrigation Kit consisted of a 10Hp power water pump, two 10,200 litre water tanks, suction pipe, discharge pipe, valve and small implements.
