Back in 2021, Soon Wei Yuen was given 1,000 dalo suckers of the Tarova Damu Variety to plant on his land in Tovata, Makoi.
Through this assistance by the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways, the hardworking commercial farmer has planted over 100,000 dalo on his farmland and will expand to his second farm in Koronivia.
The integrated farmer is now supplying dalo to Ram's Exports at $3.00 per kilogramme and hopes to expand into other agricultural commodities.
Apart from dalo, ginger and assorted vegetables, Mr Yuen also operates a small fish pond.
Through advice and continuous monitoring, Mr Yuen has been able to mass produce his dalo suckers and selling them at 35cents per sucker.
He has just acquired a piece of land in Koronivia which he aims to plant with different varieties of dalo.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways is calling on more youths to engage in farming and to utilise their land.
Youths are encouraged to visit their nearest agriculture station for more information and advice.
