In celebrating Civil Service Week, staff of the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways joined forces with officers from other ministries and departments to clean up the greater Nasinu area.
Speaking to the staff after the clean-up and tree planting session today, Permanent Secretary for Local Government, Ms Seema Sharma commended the efforts of civil servants and said that this week is all about giving back to the communities.
"As civil servants, we are always giving back and I applaud the efforts of everyone that turned up today today to assist in the clean up of the Nasinu area," said Ms Sharma.
"Stay true to yourselves and continue to serve with passion in the various ministries and departments that you serve. We are playing our part as responsible citizens and need to keep our families and communities aware of the need to keep our Fiji clean."
Over 1000 kilogrammes of waste was collected today and sorted into different categories.
Rubbish collected for recycling includes PET bottles and aluminium cans.
