The handing over of jerseys to the Eagles Volleyball club in Raiwai, Suva, signifies support and our role as responsible leaders.
Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Vatimi Rayalu made these comments whilst handing over three sets of volleyball sportswear to members of the women's team.
"This is a personal presentation from me and one which I had agreed to when the team approached me. I was raised here in the Raiwai and Raiwaqa area- an area that was synonymous back in the day for grooming strong volleyball players and were always champions at the national level," explained Hon. Rayalu.
"With drugs and criminal activities on the rise, we really need to encourage and advise our children to stay on the right track. Youths in the rural centres can always utilise time on their farms and here in the Raiwai and Raiwaqa areas, they have resorted to sports."
Hon. Rayalu added that young people need to be given a chance to thrive in their journey towards talent discovery and most importantly engaging them in activities that will forge healthy relationships and saying no, to the use and abuse of drugs.
