July 20, 2024

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is about lifelong skills learning where you get to develop abilities, knowledge and values.

These were the remarks by the Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Tomasi Tunabuna at the Seaqaqa Central College when closing the TVET and Enterprising Week yesterday (Friday 19th July).

“TVET learning empowers you with the skills and knowledge to be job creators and not job seekers, so make use of this opportunity, and we hope to see more young entrepreneurs right here in Seaqaqa in the very near future,” said Hon. Tunabuna.

Hon. Tunabuna commended the Principal and especially TVET staff, for the initiatives which is a success and looks forward to more interesting programs and innovative ideas in years to come.

“I would like to sincerely thank you for this great initiative to empower students to maximise their individual talents to the fullest at an early age. Empowerment is not just a word; it is a call to action. It is about recognizing your worth, embracing your abilities, and taking ownership of your future. It is about standing tall in the face of challenges, lifting others with you, and creating a world that is more just, more equitable, and more sustainable for all,” added Hon. Tunabuna.

‘’Academic subjects are tailor-made to provide you with lucrative career paths to address skills gap in the local labour market, and benchmarking it with the international education services providers in the provision of relevant and quality TVET programs.”

‘’Agricultural education is part of TVET training and I am proud to be your guest today. Agricultural training has taught me a lot of survival skills in which I made agriculture, a career path for me. It allowed me to climb up the ranks from a junior livestock officer back when I started to being the present Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways,” stressed Hon. Tunabuna.

“I developed skills in leadership, communication, team building, and civic engagement. Additionally, I’ve also ventured into becoming an entrepreneur contributing to the creation of job opportunities for members of my community. Those are the benefits of TVET training to me,” he smiled.

“To the Principal and staff of the school, the TVET Department and its teachers need your utmost support. To make TVET training exciting and interesting in your school, your support to the TVET Department is paramount. With the students that you get from your community, try and work with the TVET Department in strategizing what is best for them and providing a conducive learning environment for them, especially with TVET training,” Hon. Tunabuna stated.

He reminded students that the world is theirs to shape, transform and make better for them and their future generation.

Students were awarded with prizes and gifts for their talents and artworks showcasing best agricultural practises and models.

Government ministries and departments were present for the whole week to showcase their work and talk to students about their roles.
