There is a need for more landowners to engage in extensive agriculture and utilise unused land.
Today, Minister for
Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Vatimi Rayalu visited Reverend Epeli Ratabacaca,
the All Nations Christian Fellowship General Superintendent, at his farm in
Naivuruvuru,
Verata in Tailevu, and was impressed with the progress on his farm.
“Reverend Ratabacaca has been embodying the principles of his faith not just through words, but through actions, particularly in the realm of farming. This is a powerful way to "walk the talk," showing that faith can be lived out practically and meaningfully in everyday life,” said Hon. Rayalu.
The official entourage toured his guava, dalo and cassava farm which has been planted on a large scale using mechanised farming.
The family have leased 33 acres from neighbouring Naloto Village and hope to fully utilise it in the coming months.
Reverend Ratabacaca says that there are plans to expand and he hopes to work closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways with regards to advice and monitoring.
“We thank Hon. Rayalu for taking time out to visit us here on the farm and I have already discussed with him our future plans.
"Farming is truly the way to go in order for us to lift our standard of living as it ensures food security first and foremost” he added.
"Believe in your potential and take that first step. There are endless opportunities when it comes to farming we can turn unused land into gold but all we need is dedication and hard work."
