Twenty-five households in the Mataniborosisi Settlements in the district of Suva, Rewa, received a rotavator from the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways and Live and Learn as an initiative aimed to enhance food and income security at the household level.
During the handover yesterday, the Director of Land Resource Planning and Development of the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways, Mr Amena Banuve, informed the community that the government and donor parties had assisted them and it was now their duty to take ownership and boost their farming activities.
Mr. Banuve advised the community to use the rotavator on their land to cultivate fresh fruits and vegetables, aiming to enhance nutritious and healthy diets for their families.
He also urged them to use bacterium culture to maintain soil fertility.
Mr Banuve also acknowledged the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia, for their support and contribution to Fiji’s communities through the Atoll Food Future Project.
Village headman Filipo Gonemeke thanked the government and the donors for their assistance. Their collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Live and Learn over the past two years has focused on uplifting farming activities and improving livelihoods.
“We will make use of the assistance given to us and increase our farming activities,” said Mr. Gonemeke.
