FARM MECHANISATION TO BOOST PRODUCTION

August 22, 2024

Villagers of Nakanacagi village in Dreketi, Macuata are grateful for the assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways under the Farm Mechanization program.

Nauanisiga village cooperative group treasurer Manasa Naeqe said this when they received a brand new tractor from the Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Tomasi Tunabuna last week.

“This is the first assistance that we are receiving in the village and we are grateful to the ministry for thinking of us in terms of the development of our farmers,” he said.

“Due to globalisation and the fast-evolving agriculture sector, the availability of the new tractor will give the farmers a lot of benefits such as the knowledge of types of machinery and its impacts,” he said.

“It will also help us in elevating farming to the commercial level, promoting unity amongst farmers in addition to the providence of stable income,” he said.

He added that the new tractor will also empower more youths and women in agriculture.

“Before the assistance, we would wait for the Ministry of Agriculture or neighbours for tractors but this will save time for ploughing and farming.”

Hon. Tunabuna in handing over the tractor to the Mataqali Nakorokalou, encouraged farmers to work together and achieve more through farming.

“This is a new era for the Yavusa Naua and the results will be great. The formation of this cooperative will allow more assistance from the government to come to the village and will also open doors to markets,” he said.

“The tractor is an asset to be taken care of and you must work together and contribute to farming success amongst yourselves to take Nakanacagi forward.”

The assistance to the Nauanisiga village cooperative will benefit 65 farmers who are planting cassava, watermelon, dalo, plantain, rice, and yams.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways is reminding members of the public to visit your nearest agriculture station for more information and advice.
