NAWENI VILLAGERS ENCOURAGED TO INCREASE AGRICULTURAL EFFORTS

September 20, 2024

Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Vatimi Rayalu encouraged villagers of Naweni in Cakaudrove to concentrate on increasing their agricultural production.

Speaking to them today during a ‘talanoa’ session, Hon. Rayalu emphasized the importance of enhancing local farming practices to improve food security and boost the economy.

“There are various government initiatives and resources available to support farmers, and I urge you to take advantage of these opportunities. Please make it a point to visit your agriculture station and speak with the officers on the assistance available and how you will be able to access them,” advised Hon. Rayalu.

The session aimed to foster dialogue and collaboration among villagers to strengthen their agricultural efforts and achieve sustainable growth.

There are only three villages in the district of Naweni namely Dromuninuku, Naweni and Tacilevu villages.

Farmers in the district have been producing rootcrops, yaqona, vegetables, cocoa and vanilla.

Hon. Rayalu says that more can be achieved if the farmers work in unity to produce more agricultural commodities.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways is actively encouraging more women and youth to engage in agriculture. By promoting inclusive participation, the ministry aims to empower these groups and harness their potential in the agricultural sector.

Initiatives include training programs, access to resources, and support networks designed to build skills and confidence. This approach not only enhances productivity but also contributes to food security and community development.

The ministry believes that involving women and youth will bring fresh perspectives and innovation to farming practices, ultimately benefiting the entire agricultural landscape.
