Hon. Rayalu said by fostering creative partnerships, the Pacific region can develop a more robust, sustainable and inclusive agrifood system that serves the interests of all its residents.
“Fiji’s agrifood system is a dynamic and essential part of the country’s economy and culture, aiming to achieve sustainability, resilience and food security,” said Hon. Rayalu.
However, Fiji’s agrifood system faces challenges such as climate change, limited arable land, soil fertility decline, saltwater intrusion, pests and diseases, market access and labor shortage. Addressing these challenges requires innovative solutions, policy support and regional cooperation.
The Government of Fiji acknowledges the critical importance of creative partnership for the successful transformation of agrifood systems within the Pacific region such as:
