The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways proudly announces the successful completion of a basic pig and poultry farming training program conducted for 30 subsistence farmers in Nabukavesi, Namosi.
This initiative is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to empower rural communities with the knowledge and skills needed to improve their livelihoods and promote sustainable farming practices.
Agriculture Officer (Livestock) for Serua and Namosi, Pena Donuca in highlighting the objective of the two days training said that the primary objective is to enlighten the participants on the basics of pig and poultry management since they have been raising these commodities.
“Our goal is to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance their farming practices and improve their livelihoods. The training was conducted through a request from the villagers in the interest of food security,” explained Mr. Donuca.
“We have been conducting food security awareness in communities around Serua and Namosi and one of the requests brought to our attention was the need to conduct commodity training in villages,” he said.
“It is imperative that farmers are well informed on the appropriate mechanism of farming technically. I can tell from the way participants responded that there needs to be more trainings conducted in the future. It can create a positive impact on their livelihood and help them realize the untapped potential they have."
The program was led by experienced agricultural experts who provided personalized guidance and support to the participants. Their expertise ensured that the training was informative, engaging, and relevant to the needs of the farmers.
Monika Tuiqila, a farmer from Nabukavesi said that the training was incredibly valuable and she learnt so much about pig farming.
“I'm excited to apply these new skills to improve my farm. Having experts guide us through the process made a huge difference," said Jope Ifereimi, another farmer from Nabukavesi.
Both farmers agreed that they are now confident and prepared to take farming to the next level.
