January 16, 2025

Iliavi Qalo, from Nubumakita Village in the Ra Province harvested six tonnes of dalo of the Tausala variety this week.

His harvested dalo will be collected by Ben Trading Company Limited at a farmgate price of $3.50 per kilogram.

Mr. Qalo was assisted in the last financial year by the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways through the Outsourcing Program where he paid half the cost of land preparation works whilst the Ministry paid for the remainder of the total cost.

He was also supplied with agro inputs subsidy and managed to plant two varieties of dalo namely 10,000 Tausala and 5000 Uronivoni on his land.

Senior Agriculture Officer (Ra) Isei Nabitu is encouraging farmers in the Ra Province to utilise the assistance available in the Ministry.

"Please visit your agriculture office and speak with the officers on the various assistance available. There are various packages available but we need the farmers to make an effort to visit us so that we are able to plan their farming programs accordingly as well as assistance that can be made available should they meet all requirements," explained Mr. Nabitu.
