Today, the Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Vatimi Rayalu, addressed farmers in Vunivutu, Labasa, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between farmers and the ministry.
He highlighted that while the government is providing assistance to those looking to expand their agricultural operations, it is crucial for farmers to actively seek advice and engage with ministry staff in their respective localities.
“Please visit your nearest agriculture station and speak with the officers on the various assistance that is available. We have assistance available but you need to discuss with the officers on the ground as they will be able to advise you accordingly as well as take you through the requirements and so forth,” said Hon. Rayalu.
“I also ask that you work with the ministry to assist in the efforts of growing the agricultural sector through the implementation of sustainable farming practices and innovative agricultural techniques.”
Hon. Rayalu added that he is quite impressed with the increase in rice farming but adds that vacant land needs to be utilised.
“I applaud you all for the efforts and hard yards put into farming and I ask that you elevate your farming programs to the next level. Do not hesitate to seek assistance and advice throughout your farming programs.”
Hon. Rayalu reminded the farmers that there is a great need for unity and teamwork in enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability in the community.
Aseri Tagicakiverata, a rice farmer in Vunivutu thanked Hon. Rayalu for all the advice and assistance that has been rendered to the farmers and said that they will continue to strengthen their relations for the betterment of the agricultural sector.
“We are so fortunate that Hon. Rayalu visited us today and we appreciate the discussion session that also took place with all the agricultural officers from the respective divisions. We now have a fair idea of the various assistance packages that are available and will be visiting the Labasa Office for further clarification and more information,” added Mr. Tagicakiverata.
Hon. Rayalu and his entourage will visit projects sites in the Cakaudrove Province tomorrow.
