Farmers can expect great services, assistance and advice after the opening of the newly renovated Northern Drainage Board office in Labasa Town.
These were the comments by the Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Vatimi Rayalu when opening the office this morning.
“The newly renovated office is expected to become a hub for agricultural development in the region, facilitating meetings and consultations aimed at improving the respective drainage schemes,” said Hon. Rayalu.
“Overall, the opening of the Northern Drainage Board office marks a significant step forward in supporting the agricultural sector in the Northern Division, paving the way for increased productivity and resilience among local farmers,” he added.
"Northern Drainage Board members have a tremendous role to play in looking after the three provinces in the North. There are outdated infrastructure that needs to be replaced and these will be the tasks that the Board will look into first."
"Growing the agricultural sector needs a holistic approach and I am asking everyone involved to be all hands on deck and lets work together to elevate the agriculture sector to greater heights," added Hon. Rayalu.
Northern Drainage Board Chairman, Gyan Chandra said that the opening of the office is a sign of great things to come in terms of execution of the work and support for the local agricultural community.
“With the upgraded facilities, the Board will be better equipped to address the needs of farmers in the Northern Division and assist them to navigate challenges related to drainage and water management,” explained Mr. Chandra.
Mr. Chandra also expressed his gratitude to the stakeholders and government agencies that contributed to the successful completion of the renovation project and also encouraged farmers to take advantage of the resources and expertise available at the new office, stating that the Board is committed to fostering collaboration and innovation within the farming community.
