The Brucellosis Tuberculosis Eradication Campaign (BTEC) by the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways is a crucial initiative aimed at safeguarding livestock health and ensuring the safety of agricultural products.
Recently, a dedicated team of four officers from the Animal Health and Production Division has been conducting tests on cattle in farms located in the Navosa and highlands of Nadi.
These tests are essential for
determining the farm's status regarding Brucellosis and Tuberculosis, two
significant diseases that can affect cattle and have serious implications for
both animal and public health.
The ongoing efforts underscore the commitment of the ministry to promote sustainable livestock farming practices and protect the agricultural sector from the impacts of these diseases.
The results from the testing will provide vital information to the farm management and help inform future actions to ensure the health of the cattle and the safety of the food supply.
The BTEC initiative not only aims to eliminate these diseases but also to educate farmers about best practices in animal husbandry to prevent the spread of infections.
The BTEC team will continue to carry out tests on farms across Fiji and interested farmers are encouraged to contact their nearest agriculture station for more information and advice.
