EXCITING NEWS FOR THOSE IN THE TURMERIC VALUE CHAIN

February 4, 2025

The CCNASWP17 today recommended the proposed regional Turmeric Standard as an international standard for fresh turmeric.

In 2023, the NASWP region agreed on a few new work proposals during the CCNASWP16. Fiji made a submission proposing a new regional Turmeric Standard in which all members of the region were in consensus for Fiji to take the lead role in drafting a Turmeric New Work Proposal document.

Prior to the CCNASWP 17 Session, Fiji has made major developments on the paper and made the submission to the Codex Secretariat.

Fiji presented the document at CCNASWP 17 and encouraged regional members to support it because it would become an international standard.

The news from Fiji was well received and supported by members of the region.

The CCNASWP17 Chairperson, Dr Andrew Tukana with advice from the Codex Secretariat, has advised Fiji to submit a CRD for the upcoming Codex Committee for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables (CCFFV) session that is scheduled to take place on 25 February 2025 in Mexico.
