Belego Farmers in Cakaudrove were encouraged to work closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways and assist in growing the agricultural sector.

Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Vatimi Rayalu encouraged the farming community yesterday during his four day visit to the Northern Division this week.

“The agriculture sector offers so much potential because you have continued to toil the land to this day. You know the benefits and I must applaud you for continuing despite the challenges that you face have faced over the years,” said Minister Rayalu.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration between farmers and government entities to enhance productivity and sustainability in agriculture.

Hon. Rayalu highlighted various government initiatives aimed at supporting farmers, including access to better resources, training programs, and improved infrastructure. He encouraged the Belego farmers to take advantage of these opportunities to boost their yields and adopt innovative farming practices.

“The ministry is here to support you, and together, we can overcome the challenges presented by climate change, market fluctuations, and other hurdles,” he added.

He also urged farmers to diversify their crops to reduce dependency on a single source of income and to explore new markets for their produce.

In closing, he reassured the farmers of the government’s commitment to ensuring that the agricultural sector thrives, which is essential not only for individual farmers but also for the overall economy of Cakaudrove and Fiji as a whole.

“Your hard work and resilience are vital for our nation's food security and economic growth,” concluded Hon. Rayalu.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways is inviting the general public to visit their nearest agriculture station for further information and advice on farming as well as the various types of assistance that is available.
