Around 31 participants from
Tubalevu village in Namara, Tailevu attended an Organic Turmeric Production
Training at Tubalevu Hall yesterday.
This initiative is part of the
Ministry’s ongoing efforts to empower rural communities with the knowledge and
skills needed to improve their livelihoods and increase agricultural
production.
Agriculture Officer (Tailevu
South), Rajeshni Hari in highlighting the objective of the one-day training
said that the primary aim is to enlighten the farmers on the management
practices of turmeric, post-harvest handling practices, and the marketing
aspects since they have been planting these commodities.
“Our role is to equip them with
the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance their farming practices and
improve their livelihoods and at the same time create awareness on spice
farming,” explained Ms Hari.
Mr Josevata Kanabicibici, a
retired school teacher from Tubalevu village in Namara said the training was an
eye-opener for most of them and they learned a lot of new things.
“I am so happy to be in this
training, I learned a lot of things and look forward to a lot of collaboration
for the betterment of my villages.
“Since I grew up, my parents
have been growing turmeric, until today we still rely on this commodity as a
source of livelihood,” said Mr Kanacibicibi.
Tubalevu villages are prepared
to take turmeric farming to the next level.
