STRENGTHENING AGRICULTURAL COOPERATION

The Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Waterways, Dr Andrew Tukana met with the Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Fiji, Mr Wang Yuan at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Raiwaqa today.

 

The discussion focused on capacity building for the Ministry staff. The ongoing cooperation between the two nations includes sending Ministry staff to China for short-term agricultural training to equip them with advanced knowledge and skills to enhance Fiji’s agricultural sector.

 

Through continued South-to-South cooperation, China actively supports agricultural growth in developing countries, including Fiji.

 

Ongoing cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Fiji includes the Juncao Demonstration Center in Nadi, which has served over 3,000 families, and rice demonstration projects implemented by Chinese experts on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

 

These collaborations aim to enhance food security and promote sustainable development in Fiji.
