REVITALIZING COCOA FARMING IN NASAUTOKA VILLAGE

The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways is conducting a two-day cocoa training program for Tailevu cocoa farmers aimed at revitalizing the long-standing cocoa farming tradition at Nasautoka village in Wainibuka, Tailevu.

This initiative seeks to equip local farmers with modern techniques to enhance their cultivation and management practices.

Senior Agriculture Officer (Cocoa), Tevita Valu said Wainibuka farmers have been dedicated to cocoa farming for generations, contributing significantly to the region’s agricultural heritage.

“Recognizing the potential of cocoa as a vital commodity, the Ministry of Agriculture has stepped in to rejuvenate and support cocoa farming,” he said.

The training program focused on sustainable farming practices, pest management and post-harvest techniques.

The program aims to boost the productivity and quality of cocoa in the region by providing hands-on training and expert guidance.

Chairman of the Tailevu Provincial Council, Semi Matalau expressed his gratitude to the Ministry for the support.

“With the Ministry’s assistance, we can maximize our efforts in growing agriculture. We are excited to rekindle our cocoa farms and anticipate the positive impact to our communities,” he said.

This cocoa training program is part of the Ministry’s initiative to revitalize cocoa in Tailevu and promote economic growth.
