2025 CROP AND LIVESTOCK GUIDE LAUNCHED

March 18, 2025

The “2025 Crop and Livestock Guide” - a document that embodies months and years of research, experience, and dedication to advancing sustainable agriculture in our nation was launched today (18 March) at the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways Headquarters in Raiwaqa.

Officiating at the launch, Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Vatimi Rayalu said that this guide, first introduced in 2025 as the “Crop Guide”, has served as a crucial resource for our ministry staff in disseminating research-proven technologies to farmers and clients.

“For a decade, it has been a reliable tool for improving crop production, ensuring production, ensuring food security, and enhancing agricultural sustainability,” said Hon. Rayalu.

“Today, we mark a significant milestone as we unveil its latest edition - one that not only builds upon past knowledge but also introduces, for the very first time, a dedicated Livestock component to support and enhance animal production and welfare.”

Hon. Rayalu stressed that agriculture will remain as the backbone of our economy, and as we look towards the future, we must ensure that both crop and livestock production evolve with the changing climate, technological advancements, and market demands.

“The 2025 Crop and Livestock Guide is a road map to empowering our farmers with the best possible knowledge and practices to drive sustainable growth in the sector,” added Hon. Rayalu.

“Through this guide, we aim to bridge the gap between research and practical application through Extension approaches, ensuring that every farmer, regardless of location or scale of operation, has access to the best farming methods and technologies.”

With the inclusion of the livestock component, Hon. Rayalu adds that this guide will provide farmers with valuable insights on breeding, nutrition, health management, and animal welfare.

“This addition reflects our commitment to raising the standard of agriculture production while ensuring ethical and sustainable farming practices are met.”

“As we diversify and strengthen our agricultural sector, it is imperative that we equip our farmers with the right tools and knowledge to enhance productivity and resilience.”

Hon. Rayalu also added that all agricultural stakeholders must embrace innovation, adopt best practices, and work together toward a future where our agricultural sector thrives, providing food security, economic stability, and environmental sustainability for generations to come.

E-copies of the Crop and Livestock Guide can be downloaded from the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways website whilst hard copies will be distributed to agriculture stations across Fiji for farmers.
