March 21, 2025

Farmers from the nine villages and eighteen settlements within the districts of Naloto and Nalotawa in Ba will now have easier access to agricultural services after the opening of the Nukuloa Agriculture Station today.

Officiating at the event, Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Vatimi Rayalu told the farmers present, that today marks a significant milestone in our shared journey toward sustainable agriculture and improved livelihoods for our farming communities.

“This occasion is particularly meaningful as we gather at Nukuloa, a place that holds deep historical significance in Fiji's governance and administration,” said Hon. Rayalu.

“To the 1,030 crop and livestock farmers who work tirelessly in the fields of Naloto and Nalotawa – you are the true heroes of our nation. Your dedication to the land, your resilience in the face of challenges, and your commitment to feeding our communities deserve our deepest respect and gratitude. You are the backbone of this nation, and it is because of your hard work and commitment that we continue to thrive as a country,” added Hon. Rayalu.

“This new agriculture office represents far more than just a building. It stands as a testament to our government's ongoing commitment to supporting our agricultural sector, which is vital for food security, sustainable development, and economic growth.”

“Your coalition government's commitment to agriculture remains unwavering. We are investing in advanced research, sustainable farming techniques, and efficient water management practices. All these efforts are aimed at enhancing productivity while safeguarding our natural resources for future generations,” he added.

Hon. Rayalu added that with three technical officers stationed at the new station, the office will bring essential services closer to the farming communities and will serve as a bridge between traditional farming wisdom and modern agricultural practices, ensuring that farmers have access to the know-how, support and guidance that they need to thrive.

Hon. Rayalu stressed that the establishment of the Nukuloa Agriculture Station is part of the ministry’s long-term vision to strengthen agricultural services in this region.

“It will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our service delivery to rural farmers, ensuring our presence where it matters most – on the ground, in the farms, alongside you.”

“This office will also serve as a hub for researchers, agricultural experts, and the local community to come together, share experiences, and exchange knowledge. This collaboration will not only improve our agricultural outputs but also strengthen the bonds within our communities.”

“Today, we write a new chapter in the history of Nukuloa. This place, which has long been a cornerstone of Fiji's heritage, is now officially recognized as a Government Agriculture Station.”

Now, as an officially recognized Government Agriculture Station, Nukuloa joins the ranks of other esteemed agricultural stations across Fiji, such as Koronivia, Sigatoka, and Naduruloulou.

These stations have been at the forefront of agricultural research and development, and Nukuloa will now contribute to that legacy.

In closing, Hon. Rayalu urged farmers to take full advantage of the opportunities the new office will provide and for farmers to work hand-in-hand, nurturing our land and our communities, so that all may reap the rewards and build a brighter future for generations to come.
