Youths from Tabia Village in Navatu, Cakaudrove were encouraged today to continue with their Beef Project by the Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Vatimi Rayalu.
Kicking off his one week visit in the Northern Division, Hon. Rayalu visited the Tabia Youth Group at their farm site where he was enlightened of their progress as well as challenges.
The Tabia Beef Cluster consists of 13 farmers whose main aim was to confine their animals and raise them using proper husbandry and management practices while allowing the crop farmers to expand their farming.
They were assisted under the Rural and Outer Island Project (ROI) of 2020-2021 where they were assisted with fencing and stockyard material at a total cost of $17,700.00 and their contribution was $8,000.00 in the form of labour.
With a total land area of 20
hectares, they have plans to increase their stock and expand their operations.
They currently have a total stock of 40 cows with most already sold to the local community.
Hon. Rayalu commended the group for their efforts and encouraged them to continue to apply best practices in livestock management to ensure the sustainability and profitability of their project.
Hon. Rayalu also emphasized the importance of collaboration between farmers, local authorities, and government agencies to ensure that the project succeeds and benefits the community as a whole.
He highlighted the government's continued support through the ministry’s initiatives and programs, which aim to empower rural communities to improve their livelihoods.
The Tabia Beef Cluster is seen as a model for rural development and youth engagement in agriculture, with the potential to contribute significantly to the local economy and create opportunities for other communities in the region.
