The Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Hon. Vatimi Rayalu, received credentials from Mr Guangzhou Qu, the new Head of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) Sub-Regional Office for the Pacific Island countries, during a courtesy visit at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Raiwaqa today.
Discussions focused on:

Ongoing and potential FAO support for Fiji’s agricultural sector

Aligning FAO initiatives with Fiji’s agricultural development goals

Reaffirming FAO’s presence and commitment to Fiji’s growth
Hon. Rayalu highlighted the urgent need to upgrade Fiji’s aging waterways infrastructure, much of which dates back to the 1960s and 1970s. With climate change increasing rainfall intensity, these structures are under immense pressure.
The FAO showed support under the Hand-in-Hand Initiative that will benefit Fiji for years to come.
