Visiting farmers and staff in the Central Division was the order of the day as the Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Vatimi Rayalu, made it a point to check on progress first-hand.
He visited farm sites in Nakaikogo, Naqarani as well as the Waterways Division project- the newly constructed seawall at Naivilaca in Rewa and finished off at the Lakena Agriculture Station.
He encouraged the hardworking farmers to continue their efforts in boosting local food production and assured them of the Ministry’s continued support.
Hon. Rayalu emphasized the importance of sustainable farming practices and resilience against climate challenges, particularly in low-lying coastal areas like Naivilaca.
He commended the construction of the new seawall, highlighting it as a critical infrastructure project aimed at protecting both agricultural land and coastal communities from rising sea levels and erosion.
At the Lakena Agriculture Station, the Minister acknowledged the dedication of the staff and their role in supporting innovation and providing technical assistance to farmers across the Central Division.
He reminded staff of the important roles that they play in government’s efforts to growing the agricultural sector.
He concluded by reaffirming the government's commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure food security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability in the agriculture sector.
Tomorrow, Hon. Rayalu will continue his site visit to farms in the Naitasiri Province.
