TRAINING ENHANCES MILK PRODUCTION AND HUSBANDRY PRACTICES IN NUKULOA, WAINIBUKA

The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways recently conducted an intensive dairy training for farmers in Nukuloa, Lutu, Wainibuka equipping them with essential husbandry practices to enhance production and ensure the quality of their milk.

For generations, dairy farming has been a way of life for these hardworking farmers, who have dedicated themselves to sustaining Fiji’s dairy industry.

The training, held in collaboration with the Fiji Cooperative Dairy Company Limited, aimed to strengthen their existing knowledge while introducing improved techniques to increase efficiency and productivity.

Practical demonstrations on proper milk handling and care provided farmers with valuable insights on preserving quality and reducing waste.

Attendees included representatives from the Fiji Development Bank, who engaged with participants to explore financial support options for sustainable farm growth.

Speaking on the significance of the training, Agriculture Officer Livestock (Central) Iliana Tuivuna emphasized the need for ongoing farmer education.

“This initiative ensures our farmers are equipped with the right knowledge and best practices to increase production while maintaining high-quality standards," she said.

"Through collaboration and continued support, we aim to foster a resilient and self-sustaining dairy sector,” she said.

“Proper husbandry and milk care are crucial for increasing production and ensuring the quality of dairy products. Through this hands-on training, farmers now have the tools and techniques to enhance their operations and contribute to the growth of Fiji’s dairy industry,” she said.

A participant from Nukuloa, Mitieli Tikoduadua, expressed appreciation for the training and the collaborative support from various stakeholders.

“This training has opened our eyes to new ways of improving milk quality and animal care. We are grateful to the Ministry and its partners for providing us with the knowledge and resources to strengthen our dairy farming efforts,” he said.

The Ministry remains committed to empowering farmers through targeted training and resources, reinforcing its dedication to agricultural development and food security.
