The Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Tomasi Tunabuna, visited Grace Road Farm in Votualevu, Nadi, where he observed the state-of-the-art hydroponic farming system that is transforming agricultural production in Fiji’s hot climate while creating employment opportunities and improving pest control.

Grace Road Farm has pioneered indoor farming, utilizing advanced hydroponic technology to cultivate crops in a controlled environment, ensuring consistent yields, efficient water usage, and climate resilience.

The facility stands as a testament to modern agricultural innovation, demonstrating how technology-driven farming can overcome environmental challenges and enhance food security in Fiji.

One of the key advantages of hydroponic farming is its ability to minimize pest infestations, reducing the need for chemical pesticides.

By growing crops in a protected indoor environment, the farm ensures higher-quality produce, fewer losses, and a more sustainable approach to agriculture.

During his visit, Hon. Tunabuna commended the farm’s commitment to sustainable agriculture, emphasizing the importance of adopting climate-smart farming methods to strengthen Fiji’s agricultural sector.

“This facility represents the future of farming. Hydroponic systems allow crops to thrive efficiently, even in challenging climates like Nadi’s heat, ensuring sustainability and productivity while reducing water consumption and pest-related losses,” he said.

Beyond its agricultural advancements, Grace Road Farm is also contributing to local employment, providing job opportunities in farming, food processing, and supply chain management.

The farm’s expansion has supported economic growth in the Western Division, reinforcing the value of investing in innovative agricultural systems.

Hydroponic farming is an innovative complement to Fiji’s diverse agricultural landscape," said Sang Hyun, Farm Manager at Grace Road Farm.

"By integrating advanced technology with traditional farming practices, we can enhance food security, improve efficiency, and provide sustainable solutions that benefit farmers and consumers alike. Our goal is to support the broader agricultural community by sharing knowledge and embracing techniques that contribute to resilience and productivity across the sector."

Officials at the Ministry of Agriculture reaffirmed their commitment to supporting progressive farming practices, ensuring that hydroponic technology and climate-smart solutions are incorporated into national agricultural policies.

The visit to Grace Road Farm highlights the transformative potential of hydroponics, ensuring farmers have access to modern techniques that enhance productivity, sustainability, and resilience.
