The Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Tomasi Tunabuna, visited farmers along the rugged Nausori Highlands road this week, recognizing their resilience and commitment to sustaining agricultural livelihoods despite ongoing challenges.

During his journey to Bukuya, Hon. Tunabuna met with farmers and farming communities who face significant hardships, including poor road conditions, limited market access, and unreliable mobile reception.

Despite these obstacles, they continue to persevere, ensuring that agriculture remains a pillar of Fiji’s economy and household food security.

"These farmers embody the true spirit of Fiji—resilient, hardworking, and unwavering in their commitment to their land and their families," Hon. Tunabuna stated.

"Their dedication is the backbone of our agricultural sector, and it is our responsibility as a government to support them in overcoming these challenges."

Recognizing the vital role that rural farmers play in Fiji’s development, the Ministry of Agriculture has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening support systems for farmers in remote locations.

The government continues to work towards bridging the gap between rural farmers and markets by facilitating programs to sustain their livelihoods.

"Agriculture is the foundation of our nation, and our commitment extends to every farmer, regardless of location. These communities must not be overlooked—we must ensure they receive the necessary resources to thrive," Hon. Tunabuna emphasized.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways encourages farmers across Fiji to take advantage of ongoing development initiatives aimed at improving agricultural resilience and productivity.
