Taking a meaningful step toward rehabilitation and empowerment, Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Tomasi Tunabuna visited the Tudei Youth Camp in Tau, Nadroga, where he reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through agricultural development.
The Tudei Youth Camp serves as a refuge for former street dwellers, providing them with a structured environment to rebuild their lives and gain valuable skills for self-sufficiency.
This transformative rehabilitation program was initiated by landowner Sitiveni Lesitoga Nawaqa, who generously provided his land in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Together, they have established a meaningful initiative designed to equip vulnerable youth with opportunities for skill development, reintegration, and sustainable livelihoods.
The rehabilitation camp has been instrumental in fostering resilience and growth, ensuring that participants receive the support and guidance needed to create a stable and self-reliant future.
During his visit, Hon. Tunabuna, handed over the agricultural implements and emphasized the vital role of farming in equipping young individuals with sustainable skills and renewed purpose.
“Our goal is to ensure that these young individuals have the opportunity to develop skills that not only provide a livelihood but also instill a sense of purpose,” said Hon. Tunabuna.
“Agriculture can transform lives, offering stability, independence, and a renewed sense of hope.”
Through farming, the youth at the camp will have access to food production, land management education, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to their own well-being.
“The success of the Tudei Youth Camp highlights the profound impact that structured rehabilitation programs can have on vulnerable youth, offering them a second chance to rebuild their lives.
“By working together, we can strengthen this initiative, ensuring that these young individuals receive the guidance, skills, and opportunities needed to transition into self-sufficient, empowered members of society. A united approach will not only uplift those in need but also reinforce the nation's commitment to fostering resilience, inclusion, and long-term social development.”
As the ministry continues to strengthen such outreach programs, the focus remains on ensuring that vulnerable youth have the resources and guidance to shape their futures—moving away from uncertainty and toward resilience, stability, and growth.
