Representatives from the World Bank paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways yesterday, underscoring the importance of collaboration in advancing agricultural development initiatives.
The delegation was led by Mr. Ingo Wiederhofer, Practice Manager for the Social Development Team in the East Asia and Pacific Region.
Discussions focused on gaining a deeper understanding of the ongoing developments within Fiji’s agriculture sector and aligning with the Ministry’s key priority areas to explore opportunities for meaningful collaboration.
A key highlight of the meeting was dialogue around the EnABLE (Enhancing Access to Benefits while Lowering Emissions) grant. Conversations explored potential support for climate-resilient livelihoods and sustainable agricultural practices at the pilot level, with a particular emphasis on the economic empowerment of women and youth.
Senior officials from the Ministry also briefed the delegation on current operations, outlining strategies to further grow and strengthen the sector. This engagement followed prior consultations with the Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Waterways, Dr. Andrew Tukana, reinforcing the commitment to continued dialogue and partnership.
