“Let us continue to work hard to ensure the growth of the agriculture sector and achieve food security for all Fijians.”
These were the remarks delivered today by the Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Tomasi Tunabuna, as he addressed heads of divisions during a Ministry briefing held at the ministry headquarters.
The session centered on the Ministry’s 2025/2026 Budget totalling $115million which was announced last Friday.
Hon. Tunabuna emphasized the importance of unity, innovation, and dedication at every level of the Ministry to ensure that budgetary allocations are effectively translated into tangible results for farmers, communities, and the nation.
He acknowledged the pivotal role played by staff in the successful delivery of programs and initiatives aimed at boosting productivity, strengthening food systems, and enhancing the resilience of Fiji’s agricultural sector.
“The budget provides us with a clear pathway—now we must work together to implement it effectively and ensure every Fijian farming household benefits,” said Hon. Tunabuna.
He also took the opportunity to congratulate the Deputy Secretary for Agriculture Development, Dr. Tekini Nakidakida, on his recent appointment as Co-Facilitator during the agriculture negotiations at the 62nd Meeting of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB62) of the Conference of the Parties (COP) in Bonn, Germany.
“We are proud that Dr. Nakidakida represented Fiji and the Ministry on the world stage. We will continue to build on the capacity of our staff so they too are inspired and equipped to take on leadership roles of such global significance,” Honourable Tunabuna said.
In closing, he extended his best wishes to Ministry staff who will be participating in the upcoming installation of the Tui Nayau next week in Lau.
“Kindly ensure that you carry out your tasks to the best of your abilities and continue to raise the bar for the Ministry in terms of service delivery,” he added.
