While national celebrations of Civil Service Week echoed across the country, the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways marked it with something uniquely powerful, a show of gratitude, grounded in the realities of rural service.
The Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Tomasi Tunabuna's official engagement to Vanua Levu coincided with Civil Service Week, offering a timely opportunity to personally acknowledge Ministry staff stationed across the Northern Division.
From remote stations, his visit was a tribute to those who serve not for recognition, but from deep dedication.
"This week wasn’t simply about celebration, it was about honoring the commitment of those who make things happen in places where few can see. Your work in the farthest fields and flood prone valleys is the foundation of our Ministry’s progress," said Hon. Tunabuna.
He reinforced that every officer, regardless of post or location, plays an integral role in advancing the Ministry’s mission of strengthening agriculture and uplifting Fijian communities.
"You are equally important. From junior field officers to technical officers to senior officials, your combined efforts are shaping a more food-secure, resilient Fiji. You’ve chosen service over convenience and in doing so, you’ve lit a path for countless others."
It spotlighted the steadfast spirit of Ministry staff stationed across rural communities, officers who face logistical challenges, unpredictable terrain, and climate hardships, yet deliver with unwavering commitment, humility, and care for farmers, the land and its people.
During his visit, Hon. Tunabuna, also took time to visit staff who are unwell, offering words of encouragement and reassurance.
His presence served as a reminder that in the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways, people matter first, not only for the work they do, but for who they are.
He encouraged all officers to prioritize their health and well-being, reminding them that sustainable service begins with self-care.
He concluded his visit by expressing deep appreciation to all Ministry staff in the North, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring they are supported, recognized, and equipped to continue transforming lives through agriculture.
