AGRICULTURE OFFICIALS CARRY OUT MEAT INSPECTION AND DALO INSPECTION & TREATMENT

July 9, 2025

Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways are currently on the island of Lakeba undertaking essential inspection and treatment activities.

Trained and qualified meat inspectors from the Animal Health and Production Division are carrying out meat inspections, a critical process to ensure that meat products are safe and fit for human consumption.

Inspectors thoroughly assess the quality and safety of meat by examining its appearance, smell, and overall condition. They also check for any signs of contamination, disease, or other factors that could pose a risk to public health.

On the island, inspections have been conducted at various stages of the production process – from slaughtering to processing – to ensure all products comply with food safety and regulatory standards.

In addition, dalo (taro) inspections and treatments are being carried out at the Narain Jetty Wharf and upon arrival at the Lakeba Jetty. These biosecurity measures are aimed at preventing the spread of pests such as the taro beetle and safeguarding the integrity of agricultural products entering the island.

Such proactive efforts are vital to maintaining food security and protecting Fiji’s agriculture sector from biosecurity threats.
