HON. TUNABUNA REAFFIRMS AGRICULTURAL COMMITMENT DURING VISIT

Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Tomasi Tunabuna led a purposeful visit to the Ministry of Agriculture’s field offices in Rabi and Tukavesi, recognizing the dedication of staff serving in Fiji’s rural and often challenging landscapes.

Following the burial of a beloved staff member in Rabi, the Ministry's delegation continued on to Tukavesi.

In Tukavesi, he commended the tireless work of a young female officer Agriculture Assistant Dikshita Rehal manning the outer station, responsible for delivering services to Tikina o Tunuloa, Cakaudrove-i-vanua, Natewa and Kioa island, one of Fiji’s largest districts, 1889 farmers, 23 villages and 83 settlement.

Despite the rugged terrain and isolation, her unwavering commitment to farmers was highlighted as a model of frontline resilience.

"You carry the weight of service with quiet strength and you represent the Ministry's enduring promise to be present in every corner of Fiji," said Hon. Tunabuna.

He emphasized the Ministry’s responsibility to support field staff meaningfully, ensuring that even the most remote officers feel seen, equipped, and valued.

His remarks reinforced the importance of grassroots efforts in advancing national agricultural goals.

To the farmers in the surrounding districts, Hon. Tunabuna encouraged stronger partnerships with agricultural officers.

He advocated for the sharing of traditional farming wisdom, urging communities to blend local knowledge with scientific innovation.

“When indigenous practices meet research, we cultivate more than crops, we cultivate resilience and progress,” he said.
