The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways has commended Fulton Adventist University College in Sabeto, Nadi for its enduring commitment to holistic education, community upliftment, and environmental stewardship.

During an official visit to the Sabeto campus, Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honorable Inosi Kuridrani, acknowledged the college’s role as a beacon of faith and leadership in the South Pacific and expressed the Ministry’s readiness to support its evolving vision for agricultural engagement.

The Assistant Minister praised the institution’s legacy of nurturing leaders grounded in Christian values, as well as its growing emphasis on sustainable development and rural empowerment.

“Fulton’s commitment to nurturing leaders of integrity, service, and innovation aligns closely with our national vision for inclusive growth and climate resilience,” he said.

The visit included a tour of the college’s campus farm, where the Assistant Minister handed over farming implements and vegetable seedlings as a gesture of support.

He also held discussions with college officials on the potential reintroduction of agriculture courses, as part of a broader effort to strengthen practical education and community outreach.

Hon. Kuridrani outlined several areas of potential collaboration of the Ministry to support Fulton’s aspirations.

Key initiatives include the deployment of agricultural Extension Officers to support technical training and curriculum development, alongside access to seed distribution and input support programs that enhance demonstration plots and student learning.

Infrastructure development partnerships aim to improve farm access roads, drainage, and irrigation systems, while youth engagement is promoted through the Ministry’s “Young Farmers Program,” which empowers youth-led agricultural enterprises.

Additionally, joint environmental projects focus on watershed management, reforestation, and the advancement of climate-smart agriculture.

He also emphasized the importance of bridging education and practice, and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working alongside institutions like Fulton to empower the next generation of leaders.

Fulton Adventist University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Tabua Tuima expressed gratitude for the visit and the Ministry’s willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue.

He noted that the college’s mission to provide holistic, values-based education is deeply aligned with national priorities for sustainable development and youth empowerment.

“Fulton Adventist University has been part of Fiji’s educational landscape since 1905, marking 120 years of existence and service as a provider of higher education,” he said.

“We envisioned a vibrant agricultural program that not only teaches theory but also provide hands on experience and contributes to food security and sustainability.”

Fulton Adventist University continues to stand as a pillar of faith, education, and service in the region.

The Ministry’s engagement signals a shared commitment to cultivating knowledge, nurturing innovation, and sowing the seeds of sustainable progress for Fiji and the South Pacific.
